You are invited! The next quarterly meeting of the South Florida Calligraphy Guild is April 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hallandale Public Library. The meeting will be a mini-workshop on making folded ruling pens. Once made, we will experiment with our creations.
The SFCG members that participated in the last "For the Love of Books" exhibit at the Jaffe Center will have their handmade books available for viewing in an upclose and personal way.
For the first 20 members at the meeting, there will be copies of "Bound & Lettered", generously supplied by John Neal Booksellers. This publication contains information on bookbinding, calligraphy, artists' books, papercraft, and wonderful ideas for projects. It has how-to articles with step-by-step instructions and illustrations, artist galleries featuring the work of accomplished calligraphers & book artists, useful articles on tools & materials, and book & exhibit reviews.
The South Florida Calligraphy Guild was founded in February, 1981 with the desire to unite in the spirit
of camraderie all calligraphers and calligraphiles. The guild is a non-profit Florida corporation dedicated
to originating, supporting and promoting activities and communication in the fields of calligraphy, lettering
and the book arts.
We currently have 60 members from 18 to 80 years young.
We sponsor our very own handmade book exhibit "For the Love of Books"
every other year. Our guild meetings are held quarterly and we publish a quarterly newsletter, Furor Scribendi.
In addition to all of the above, we offer one-day workshops with local teachers and extended workshops featuring national
and international master calligraphers, bookbinders and artists.
We would love to have you join us! We welcome members at every level, from hobbyist to professional. Membership is $23 per year
($15 for full-time students), payable January 1. Dues include subscription to the newsletter, information on all sponsored events,
access to the guild library and voting privileges at the quarterly meetings held the second Saturdays of January, April, July,
and October). And, the opportunity to participate in all the other fun stuff we do!
